EMMA NEWHAM

emma_100Emma is an advanced level three instructor of the Pilates method having trained with Europe’s largest Pilates organisation, Body Control Pilates. Emma was one of the first and original Pilates teachers back in London when the first teacher training course was set up over ten years ago. She is an advanced member of the Register of Exercise Professionals.
Already having her own thriving Personal Training fitness consultancy in London, Emma became inundated with clients when she qualified in Pilates in 1996. She is qualified in all the small Pilates equipment as well as all of the Pilates machines.
She set up the first Pilates course for back problems at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London for their Consultant Surgeons patients.
Emma returned home in 2001 to open up the first, fully equipped Pilates studio in the North East. The reputation of the East Boldon studio grew by word of mouth and Emma receives constant referrals from G.P’s, osteopaths, physiotherapists and other health professionals. The success of the East Boldon studio prompted Emma to open up a second studio in Durham in early 2006 which is fast gaining credibility in the area.
Yoga was always a keen interest for Emma and she travelled to the Himalayas in India to undertake her yoga teacher training at the Sivananda ashram. She has since travelled to Mysore, Southern India, to train with the international guru, Patabi Jois, specialising in Ashtanga yoga. More famous, modern yogis whom Emma has studied under are the renowned anatomist, Paul Grilley and Ashtanga yogi, John Scott. Emma teaches a blend of Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga.
Emma is one of less than twenty Gyrotonic ® teachers in the U.K. Her studio has the only Gyrotonic ® machine between Leicester and Edinburgh.
As well as being a fully qualified Personal Trainer with London Central YMCA, Emma is one of a few hundred Cardiac Rehabilitation teachers in England having qualified to Phase 4 instructor with the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Emma has lectured Physiotherapists in Cardiac Rehab and the Pilates method and taught in NHS hospitals as well as private Bupa hospitals in London.
Corporate classes in the workplace were a speciality of Emmas when she lived in London.
She has a wealth of experience in the media, having hosted her own live weekly fitness slot on London radio. She had her own fitness column in the Gazette and has had articles published in glossy fitness magazines and appeared in The Guardian, The Times and The Sun newspapers.
Emma’s speciality is in sports training. She has taught Premiership and International footballers, England Cricketers, Leading Principal ballet dancers, gymnasts and worked extensively in Ireland with leading dressage riders and horse trainers.
She has taught in Australia, India, Germany, Switzerland and Dublin.

KAY KELLY

kay_100Kay is our resident yoga teacher based at both studios teaching classes and private lessons. Having studied Pilates for many years, Kay decided to undertake the Sivananda yoga teacher training in the Himalayas, India.
She has furthered her yoga studies more recently with the Yoga Biomedical Trust by completing the Yoga Therapy Foundation Course (recognised by the NHS).
Kay has also studied under the famous yoga anatomist, Paul Grilley.
Recently Kay has undertaken the Body Control Pilates teacher training course in London in order to become an advanced level 3 instructor.

HILARY GRAHAM

hilary_100Having been a practitioner of Pilates herself for many years and having a back problem which greatly improved under the influence of the Pilates method, Hilary decided to undertake the teacher training course to help others in a similar situation.
Hilary has also undertaken the Body Control Pilates teacher training course in order to reach the advanced level three instructor qualification. 

JAISHICA SHINGDIA

Jaishica is a fully fledged advanced level three Pilates teacher as well as our resident physiotherapist. She holds a BSC (Hons) in Physiotherapy at Keele University. ‘Jess’ as she likes to be known has a BSY diploma in Massage Therapy.
She trained with Pilates International in London and specialises in rehabilitation. She is not only qualified in mat work but also on all of the Pilates machines – Reformer, Wunda Chair, Barrell, Cadillac. She also holds qualifications in each of the smaller pieces of equipment such as the foam rollers, gymballs, weights, stretch bands and mini balls. She is a very experienced instructor and brings a wealth of knowledge to the studio.

JACQUIE PRICE

jacqueline_100Jacqueline teaches yoga at our East Boldon studio. Having a dance background, Jacqueline has always had a keen interest in body movement and anatomy.
She completed her yoga teacher training in the Himalayas, India at the Sivananda ashram.
She teaches mainly Hatha yoga style with a little Iyengar influence.
