Emma is an advanced level three instructor of the Pilates method having trained with Europe’s largest Pilates organisation, Body Control Pilates. Emma was one of the first and original Pilates teachers back in London when the first teacher training course was set up over ten years ago. She is an advanced level 4 member of the Register of Exercise Professionals.
Already having her own thriving Personal Training fitness consultancy in London, Emma became inundated with clients when she qualified in Pilates in 1996. She is qualified in all the small Pilates equipment as well as all of the Pilates machines.
She set up the first Pilates course for back problems at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London for their Consultant Surgeons patients.
Emma returned home in 2001 to open up the first, fully equipped Pilates studio in the North East. The reputation of the East Boldon studio grew by word of mouth and Emma receives constant referrals from G.P’s, osteopaths, physiotherapists and other health professionals.
Yoga was always a keen interest for Emma and she travelled to the Himalayas in India to undertake her yoga teacher training at the Sivananda ashram. She has since travelled to Mysore, Southern India, to train with the international guru, Patabi Jois, specialising in Ashtanga yoga. More famous, modern yogis whom Emma has studied under are the renowned anatomist, Paul Grilley and Ashtanga yogi, John Scott and David Swenson. Emma teaches a blend of Ashtanga and Hatha yoga.
Emma is one of the few Gyrotonic ® teachers in the U.K. Her studio has the only Gyrotonic ® machine between Leicester and Edinburgh.
As well as being a fully qualified Personal Trainer with London Central YMCA, Emma is one of a few hundred Cardiac Rehabilitation teachers in England having qualified to Phase 4 instructor with the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Emma has lectured Physiotherapists in Cardiac Rehab and the Pilates method and taught in NHS hospitals as well as private Bupa hospitals in London.
Corporate classes in the workplace were a speciality of Emmas when she lived in London.
She has a wealth of experience in the media, having hosted her own live weekly fitness slot on London radio. She had her own fitness column in the Gazette and has had articles published in glossy fitness magazines and appeared in The Guardian, The Times and The Sun newspapers.
Emma’s speciality is in sports training. She has taught Premiership and International footballers, England Cricketers, Leading Principal ballet dancers, gymnasts and worked extensively in Ireland with leading dressage riders and horse trainers.
She has taught in Australia, India, Germany, Switzerland and Dublin.
Kay is our resident yoga teacher based at both studios teaching classes and private lessons. Having studied Pilates for many years, Kay decided to undertake the Sivananda yoga teacher training in the Himalayas, India.
She has furthered her yoga studies more recently with the Yoga Biomedical Trust by completing the Yoga Therapy Foundation Course (recognised by the NHS).
Kay has also studied under the famous yoga anatomist, Paul Grilley.
Kay has trained with Body Control Pilates and has qualified to the standard of advanced level 3 instructor.
HILARY GRAHAM - ADVANCED PILATES TEACHER
Hilary is in charge of our Durham studio and is primarily based there. She is an advanced level 3 Body Control Pilates Instructor and a member of the Body Control Pilates Association and is listed on the Register of Exercise Professionals. She receives many referrals from osteopaths and physiotherapists for clients with back problems. Hilary was the first intructor in the area to specialise in Walking Pilates - an aerobic form of the method which is good for stamina and weight loss. She also specialises in Pilates during pregnancy.
Jamie, our resident physiotherapist is a professional member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and The Health Professions Council. He attained his physiotherapy degree with honours at the University of Salford and is an AACP approved acupuncturist. Jamie also has experience working within the NHS and is the physiotherapist for Sunderland AFC Academy.
ROSS FINCH - BSc (Hons) - CHIROPODIST/PODIATRIST
Ross qualified at the University of Huddersfield and gained valuable experience at North Derbyshire Primary Care Trust which has enabled him to provide therapies to improve your foot and lower limb health. Ross is a member of the Society of Chirpodists and Podiatrists and is registered with the Health Professionals Council.
SALLY JONES - AESTHETICS PRACTITIONER - R/N Dip He Bsc Ba(Hons)
Having qualified as a nurse in 1996, Sally Jones continued her studies to become a qualified nurse practitioner. During that time she obtained both Nursing and Nurse Practitioner degrees and also holds the independent prescribing license which enables her to administer prescriptions without a doctor being present. During 2007 she undertook an intensive training programme and qualified as an aesthetics practitioner which enables her to provide and administer non-surgical treatments to private clients. The aim is to make clients feel beautiful on the inside by restoring the effects of ageing on the outside. Looking good and feeling good are combined through a planned course of treatment with each client's individual needs discussed in detail, leaving you free to choose the most effective and affordable programme possible.
JOHN JOHNSTON - PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPIST
John is a member of the NHS register for Alternative and Complementary Therapies and holds CRB certification for your added security and peace of mind. He is regularly featured in the Shields Gazette, Sunderland Echo and Evening Chronicle.
Tara Smith - Holistic and Beauty Therapist
Tara originally trained in holistic therapies and is qualified in reflexology, aromatherapy, indian head massage, Ayurevidic treatments and swedish massage. She then trained in beauty therapy to add another string to her bow and now offers Spa Treatments for men and women, Luxury nail treatments, Bespoke Facials and Threading - the ancient Indian art of hair removal. She is one of the few therapists in the area to offer the Turkish wet shave to men.
LAUREN WILKINSON - REIKI PRACTITIONER
Lauren is a Reiki Practitioner, who specializes in a mixture of Eastern and Western based Reiki. Lauren became aware of Reiki at the age of 14, and having seen the benefits herself, wished to be able to give others this opportunity. Lauren also specializes in Crystal healing and may incorporate this into your session. Lauren is qualified to Reiki level 2.
LES OSBOURNE - REIKI PRACTITIONER
Les has been practising Reiki healing for the last 5 years, having completed his Reiki training in Jesmond. He is qualified to Reiki level 2.
