Powerlates

Powerlates is the brainchild of Pilates expert, Emma Newham, who has developed this exciting new workout. 

powerlates_1_300Since traditional Pilates may lack the aerobic component of fitness that many people desire, Emma has developed this regime to include this particular aspect in order that people can gain the benefits of increased stamina.

Emma comments, “There are many Pilates fusion classes running up and down the U.K. but hardly any that contain any aerobic element.  I have developed this workout in response to many of my students requests to hold classes that are rooted in the Pilates method and principles but also that challenge their cardiovascular fitness as well”

In New York students can enjoy the benefits of Cardiolates, which is a similar workout and is extremely popular.

powerlateslogo_200Emma continues “All the big aerobic movements such as squats and lunges are now coming back into fashion again.  I did the first taster session with some of my long term clients and they absolutely loved it.  It was like taking a trip down memory lane.  A blast from the past going back to the late eighties!   We work out to disco music and people were singing and sweating away but we had so much fun.  All that was missing was the leg warmers!! “

Emma, who started out as a Personal Trainer in London in the mid nineties, used to teach on the mini trampette about fifteen years ago and is really pleased that it is having a well deserved revival.   Powerlates incorporates mini trampolines and weights alongside traditional Pilates exercises and equipment to make for a fun, challenging and interesting workout.
